Welcome

Dear Journal,

Before I took this class, I was expected it to be just like every other regular English class. I thought we were going to read excerpts and articles and examine them. But I was wrong. We had to research for our assignments. We learned many types of genres to write like memo, technical description, and lab reports.

To what extent have I achieved the course learning objectives?

I was able to meet all of the course leaning outcomes by the end of the semester. After every assignment, we wrote a reflection paper and included which of the eight course learning outcomes we had achieved from that particular assignment. For every assignment, multiple course learning outcomes were met. Almost every assignment met course leaning outcome #2 where we were able to revise, draft, and edit our work for a final product.

In what ways have my perceptions on what writing is and does evolved this semester?

My perceptions on writing have evolved a lot in this semester. I learned that writing isn’t only limited to a simple essay. There are a lot more genres out there that are much more efficient for the purpose of my writing. I learned that we could write a technical description on a product instead of a persuasive essay. I also learned that rhetorical situation is very important before we begin to write something. When I was able to connect all of my rhetorical situations together, I was able to formulate my work much easier.

How does the audience impact that content and purpose of your text?

Audience is very important for writing. We have to make sure that we have the appropriate writing for our purpose. For example, we wrote a memo to the president of CCNY to address a problem. The president was the appropriate audience for our purpose since he was the one that can possibly facilitate the solution. If we chose a professor for our audience, it wouldn’t make much sense because a professor doesn’t have the same access as the president.

Remote Learning

Remote learning may be difficult at times. But since it started last year for us, I got used to it by last semester. Sometimes we experience many technical issues which come in the way of our classes. Another thing that was difficult was group work. This was the only class where we had group. We all had different schedules and a lot of the times we weren’t available at the same time. Social media was able to help us a lot where we were able to preschedule our meetings so that we will at least try to get all of our work done from other classes in time. But remote learning isn’t too bad overall. If we miss a class, we could just watch class recordings as if we attended it. On the other side, if we attended school in CCNY, we might be clueless sometimes if we miss class.

Overall, this semester taught me a lot and made me more experienced with remote classes. I experiences some problems that I was able to learn from and prevent them in the future.
